The "Blackwater" region of Virginia circa 1895

The Blackwater region is a beautiful rural area comprised of several counties and cities. The region is located in southeastern Virginia and is about 1 1/2 hours west of the eastern shore and about the same amount of time south of Virginia's capital of Richmond.

Citizens enjoy a rich history and large areas of open land with several rivers, including the Blackwater River located near their homes. Agriculture and manufacturing are the two largest industries in the area.

Several well known historical figures were native to the area including Nat Turner and William Mahone.
