Event Description : ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. â€" It’s time to clean out those closets and share your memories with generations to come. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, those with memories of Isle of Wight County are encouraged to bring photos and ephemera to the Isle of Wight County Museum. The museum will scan images for addition to the collection. Those bringing their memories to the museum will be able to return home with them. The following items are of interest to the museum: • Postcards • Letters • Pamphlets • Tickets • Photos of people working, relaxing or celebrating • Photos of buildings, farms and livestock • Memorabilia of special events Appointments are not necessary. Interpreting local history, the museum’s exhibits include prehistoric fossils, Native American and Colonial artifacts, a country store and the museum’s most notable artifact - the world’s oldest, edible cured ham. The 1902 pork product exemplifies the patented Smithfield curing process. Admission to the museum is free. The Isle of Wight County Museum is located at 103 Main Street in Smithfield. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The museum is closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
